Character Designs

Some sketches of the development of my character.

Soon after drawing these, I gave up on the idea of designing a completely human character. I definitely need a humanoid character to develop acting with, but I think that a full human would be too complicated a model to make, considering that I want something simple that I could just focus on the acting with.

I was trying out different shapes with the hair and clothing, but I was not developing a character that I thought properly fitted what I needed.

The above drawing is a concept Jen helped me come up with with after discussing with her what my character should be like. The hood matches the little red riding hood concept that I was playing around with earlier, but simplifies the human figure with a plain spherical head, little facial detail and simple clothing.
I sketched out this example if my character to explore the final pose, but I realised that animating the dress-cape would firstly be difficult to do at the same time as focusing on the posing and acting of the character. I would be worried that this would take away from the secondary action I was trying to express in my animation. Therefore I have edited the design to come up with a more simple solution.

These are the final drawings of my character - simplified from the original idea. I have given her a red cape - homage to little red riding hood, and kept the other colours simple to show off the character animation without it being distracting. It has fully digited hands for expression and no long cape to get in the way of seeing any body language.
